The Bali Collection

Last night we discovered, completely by accident, a massive outdoor shopping complex, just down the road from the hotel. So many shops, restaurants and spas.

Mya had her hair braided again but this time with extensions so she now feels like she has long hair.

She spent the rest of the evening swishing it around.

We had a yummy dinner at one of the restaurants.

Day 6 - Water Bomb

A fabulous day at Water Bonb in Kuta. So clean and modern with slides and swim areas for us all. Just loved it.

Day 5 - Nusa Penida

Today we had a trip to Nusa Penida. An island just off Bali that has only been open to tourist visits for 2 years.
We visited a number of view points:
Broken Beach

Billabong. Bay

Kelingking Beach

Before resting at Crystal Bay beach
John and Mya tried to do some snorkelling but the water was too rough.

Before we headed back to the mainkand by boat.

Afternoon in Kuta

Kuta....where all the tourists seem to be! Mega shopping, both local and international designer labels and bars, clubs and restaurants galore.
Mya had her hair braided.

True tourist: hair braided, Bali t-shirt and sun tan!

She then got very excited about Candylicious!

We fed the goldfish....

And watched a cultural performance....

But we weren’t too keen on the water in the supermarket!

We finished the day having dinner, watching the sun go down.

Day 4 - Morning by the Pool

After a slow start and Mya eating her own body weight in bacon......

We spent the morning by the pool. Mum relaxing whilst Mya and Dad had a play with the snorkel masks.

House Keeping

We came home to our room where House keeping had left us a note and been creative with the towels.....very cute!

Day 3 - Tour of Bali

With the help of our Expedia Guide, Alen and a private driver, we have today had a very hot but very interesting day seeing lots of different sides to Bali.
We started with some local Craft centres Tohpati, seeing how they produce fabrics and make intricate silver jewellery.

Then we went to Batuan to see one of the many temples that are throughout Bali.

We then visited a wood carving centre. It was a family business with 3 generations working there. Some of the carved pieces had taken up to 2 1/2 years to make.

Next we travelled to Ubud to see the rice terraces.

Mya went on a swing there which she loved.

Next was the monkey forest at Ubud. So many monkey in everywhere we looked. You had to be careful not to get too close as they can bite.

We then headed 5 minutes down the road to Lumbung Suri where they produce the world famous Luwak Coffee.

This possum-like animal eats the ripened coffee beans and then poo’s them out.

The beans are dried and the poo is removed and then the coffee is roasted and ground.

It is the most expensive coffee in the world, sold in Harrods, more expensive than gold!
We got to sample it as well as a number of other teas and coffees that they produce.

We tasted them all whilst looking out over the rice fields.

On our way back to the hotel we stopped in at the Muji Family Art Gallery in Batuan.

It was a long day, way too hot at times but we now have a greater understanding of Balinese life and culture.
